Accessibility statement

peckaboo.com is meant to be operable with a keyboard and readable with a screen reader. This page says what we do for that, what of it is checked automatically, and what we do not claim.

What we do

  • The interface is built from one shared component library. Semantics, focus order and contrast that are right there are right everywhere, rather than being decided again on each page.
  • peckaboo.com names the state of an instance in words and with an icon, never by color alone. Alerts and changes carry their name as well.
  • We build every control to be reachable by keyboard, with the focus kept visible.

What is checked automatically

Before a new version is released, an automated test suite runs in Chromium and in WebKit, the engines of Chrome and Safari:

  • The axe tool checks the public pages, the settings and the screens of a workspace against the rules it knows for WCAG 2.2 at levels A and AA. If it finds a violation, the version is not released.
  • Further checks report anything that runs over the edge on a phone.

Not checked automatically are the steps that appear only during a sign-in with a link or a code, and the page on which you agree to a changed version of our legal texts. And an automated check does not find every barrier: it cannot tell whether a label is understandable or whether a flow works well with a screen reader.

What we do not claim

We have not had a formal conformance assessment carried out against WCAG or EN 301 549. This page is therefore not an accessibility statement in the sense of the rules that bind public sector bodies; it describes what we hold ourselves to. peckaboo.com is aimed at businesses, so the requirements that Germany's Accessibility Strengthening Act (Barrierefreiheitsstärkungsgesetz) places on services for consumers do not apply to it.

If something is in your way

Write to [email protected] or use the other contact details in the imprint, and describe where you got stuck: which page, which assistive technology, what happened. A report like that leads to a change faster than any assessment.
