How alerts work
After every poll, peckaboo.com checks five rules for each instance. An alert goes by mail and into the bell of the application.
The rules
| Rule | Raised when | Needs the metrics token |
|---|---|---|
| The instance does not answer | two polls in a row failed | no |
| The version changed | the server reports another version than before | no |
| No worker | the server reported no worker for five minutes | yes |
| The queue is stuck | steps were pending and none ran for ten minutes | yes |
| The server restarted | the server started anew | yes |
A disruption, such as an instance that does not answer, sends one mail when it begins and one when it ends, and none while it lasts. It ends once the instance answered for two minutes in a row, so a server that keeps dropping out and coming back stays in one disruption. A notice, such as a new version, sends one mail when it happens. A restart within 15 minutes of the one before sends no mail, and the dashboard still shows it. A change of version within 15 minutes of the one before sends no mail either, so a server whose version flaps between two sends one, and the dashboard shows every change.
When an instance has not answered for seven days, it is paused, and the same people get a mail about it.
Who gets an alert
- The owners of the workspace always get its alerts.
- An admin, a member or a viewer gets them after switching on Send me the alerts of this workspace in the instance settings, for as long as their membership is active.
A mail only goes to a confirmed email address. Until an account has confirmed a new address, it gets the alerts in the bell alone. Mail and bell name the instance, what happened and since when, in your language and your time zone, and link to the dashboard of the instance. A reply to an alert reaches the support of peckaboo.com.
Switching a rule off
Every rule is on. Owners, admins and members switch a rule off for an instance in the instance settings. A rule that is off sends no alert, and its alerts still appear on the dashboard.
